Our Story
Every great brand begins with a story. ESEORA ATELIER LABEL began with a gift, was shaped by resilience, and continues to grow through faith and purpose.
The Beginning: A Gift of Creativity
My journey into fashion began long before I knew it would become my calling.
Growing up, I was exposed to tailoring through my mother, who was a trained tailor before venturing into construction. Although tailoring was not the primary path she pursued, I discovered a natural passion for creativity from an early age.
I loved working with my hands, creating art and crafts, sketching, and painting. I would take old or damaged beaded shoes and other items and transform them into something beautiful. I could look at an object, imagine what it could become, and express that vision through creativity.
Before gaining admission into higher education, I also taught young children creative arts, helping them learn drawing, painting, and other artistic skills. At the time, I did not fully understand where these experiences would lead, but creativity had always been a part of me.
My academic journey led me to study Civil Engineering. However, after surviving a life-threatening accident, I began making decisions that would gradually reshape my path. During the period intended for my industrial training, I chose to invest my time in learning tailoring. Within three months of dedicated learning and practice, I developed my sewing skills significantly, creating a foundation for the fashion journey ahead.
After completing my studies and National Youth Service Corps programme, I returned to tailoring and continued developing my craft.
One of my earliest garment-making milestones was a beautiful pair of shorts with two pockets at the hips, followed by a gown. Those creations marked an important step in my journey: I was no longer simply someone who loved creating beautiful things; I was becoming someone who could bring those ideas to life through fashion.
The Turning Point: Choosing My Calling
Building a sustainable fashion business was not easy. In search of better opportunities, I moved to Lagos and secured employment in the technology industry, working in IT support and Quality Assurance engineering.
Although I gave my best to my professional responsibilities, my passion for fashion remained alive. Through the experiences and challenges of that season, I began to reflect more deeply on the direction I wanted my life to take.
A defining moment came while I was in church, when I felt led by the Holy Spirit to begin creating ready-to-wear garments for people to purchase. I prayed about the direction and began taking steps towards it, even when financial limitations and other setbacks made progress difficult.
Eventually, I made the decision to resign from my technology role and pursue fashion full-time.
I believed it was time to build something of my own and take responsibility for the vision I carried. I understood that the journey would not be without difficulties, particularly financially, but I was determined not to allow fear to keep me from pursuing what I believed I was called to do.
Through faith, perseverance, and the support of unexpected helpers, I gradually acquired the industrial sewing machines and equipment I needed to improve my production, finishing, and efficiency.
Today, I am grateful to see customers patronising my work from near and far, including people in the diaspora. Every order, every creation, and every person who believes in my work reminds me that the journey is still unfolding.
The Birth of ESEORA
The birth of ESEORA came during a season of reflection, change, and rediscovery.
I once believed I had found a name under which to build my fashion business. However, circumstances changed, and I realised that I needed an identity that I could confidently call my own and develop according to my vision and values.
I returned to prayer and began searching for a name that represented who I was, where I came from, and what I hoped to build. Then I looked inward.
The name Ese connects to blessing in my personal understanding of my name, while Ora connects me to my hometown and my roots. I also associate the name with ideas of light, illumination, greatness, and divine blessing. Bringing these elements together inspired ESEORA, a name that, to me, represents heavenly blessings, light, and the gift of God.
For me, ESEORA is more than a name. It is a personal expression of identity, heritage, faith, and possibility.
When I initially sought to register ESEORA on its own, the name was not accepted by the Corporate Affairs Commission. I continued exploring my options until I settled on ESEORA ATELIER LABEL, which was approved.
And so, ESEORA ATELIER LABEL was born: a brand identity inspired by my roots, strengthened by my experiences, and guided by a vision that extends far beyond the present.
